The movie Enthiran was one of the most talked about Indian films outside of India for its amazing visual effects and computer graphics. The makers of this exceptional film's VFX were gathered last Saturday in Raja Annamalai Mandram to present a seminar about the efforts and techniques which were involved in Enthiran for the first time ever. The VFX Organizer of the movie, Mr. Srinivas Mohan (VFX Supervisor) from Indian Artist presided over the seminar which was organized by Arena Animation and Animation Focuz. The main aim of the seminar was to improve the knowledge and develop the enthusiasm in budding animators and VFX specialists about the Visual effects and animation industry and the techniques that are currently being implemented. The audience who were either students or animation professionals were in huge numbers. A large group of students were in line for a long time to register themselves for the seminar. They all entered eagerly after registration.
Also present were four other individual studios that played an important role in the movie. Mr.Stalin( Production Head) from Vensat Studios, Mr.Hima kumar (Head of Production) from Prasad EFX, Mr.Srinivasan (Senior Supervisor) from Pixion, Mr.Deepak Nair (Animator) from Mayans Creatives were the dignitaries present there. The dignitaries were called on stage and were honored with a boquets each. Mr Sasi Kumar of Arena animation gave the welcome speach after the Tamil Anthem was played. Each studio had its own part of work in the movie. They explained their works individually. The seminar started with Mr. Srinivas Mohan taking the stage to present the entire making of Enthiran's VFX works.
He told about the main 3 steps involved: Pre-production, Production (shooting), Post-production. He emphasized the importance of pre-production processes in the film industry in current times. And also introduced the concept of pre-visualization to the audience. He explained how they made story boards for every scene so that they didn't have to make mistakes while shooting. And he also briefed about other pre-production techniques that made the film shooting much easier. Regarding the production part He told the audience how they used camera techniques and animatronics whenever appropriate to reduce the CGI works involved. He proudly explained about the new technologies that were brought to India from abroad for the very first time in Indian film history like Dome Stage Light Scanning which is rarely used even in Hollywood.

After a short tea break the seminar continued to the post production part. Mr. Srinivas Mohan explained about compositing and lighting techniques and various other processes which were involved in the post-production. Finally before stepping down he gave the audience an opportunity to ask their queries and he replied wittily to their enthusiastic questions.

Mr. Stalin of Vensat Studios showcased his sideshow next and explained their part in the post production of the film which was mainly to duplicate the robots and make them look as good as the real Rajini Kanth. They also did face masking techniques and the entire train sequence in the movie.

Mr. Himakumar of Prasad EFX followed and explained how even small VFX works were very important in making the film a success. Their studio did the tedious task of replacing multiple instances of characters in song sequences and also made special effects like smoke, lighting and holographic imageries.

Next was Mr.Srinivas of Pixion on stage and he went on to show his detailed slideshow and explained their company's part in the movie. They were involved in the titling of the movie and they made the hand gun scenes for the Robot. They also did the challenging job of creating hundreds of robot duplicates and also some catchy special effects.

Mr. Deepak Nair finally concluded the series of seminars by explaining the baby delivery scene that his company made which was entirely a CGI work. They went into such detail to show the delivery of the baby that it looked almost realistic on computer screens and monitors.

The dignitaries were called upon stage and they were honored with mementos by the staff of Arena Animation and Animation Focuz. The dignitaries gave gifts to the audience who were enthusiastic to ask questions. The vote of thanks was delivered and the crowd dispersed after the National Anthem was played. This was a one of a kind effort taken by Arena Animation and Animation Focuz to bring in more awareness about the visual effects industry.
